Artist's Comments

I have a box of colored pencils but I never use them for anything. I haven't picked them up for years. So I did a colored pencil sketch for a change of medium and learned a great deal:

1. Don't mix faber castell or prismacolor colored pencils with crayolas (duh!)
2. Erasers don't work on colored pencil
3. Purple is essential. No amount of mixing is going to bring out a good-looking purple.
4. There are limits. Unlike pastel, the wax is not great for mixing and eventually you won't be able to change the color and you'll constantly have to add brighter colors over the top even if you already put them as the base color.

I'm a little disappointed in this picture, but practice is practice!

I think this is fantastic. You really got some great color out of your pencils, very vivid and pure (even though you shaded and all, the effect is strong). Plus I like the subject and composition, very original.

Not bad, not bad. I like the contrast between the two characters.

I love that you put Belle in red! She definitely pops out against the Beast. Would have loved to see the Beast's baby-blues, but I really like both of their postures and I think they both look great. :)

Thank you! I appreciate it. About the eyes, yeah, I agree: I love that Disney's Beast had massive blue eyes. It really made him much more human-looking and less threatening. Maybe I'll do one with his blue eyes soon.

This is amazing! I love the concept and the presentation. Even the original, uncolored sketch was fabulous. I do wish Belle's hair could have been more like the original coloration, more brown than red, but it would have taken away from the contrast between the two characters greatly, so I can understand why you made the decision. Great job!

I like this work a lot!

The anatomy and composition is really well done -Beast is really fearsome here, as well as Belle has a good expression-
And you used wax for the blending? The effect of shadows is quite good with them.

:D To sum up, to be a colour sketch, it turned out awesomelly good!
