Technical illustration for the website of High Tech Crating, where I work. This is called a podium crate, I think.

what did you make it in?

:iconrosethorn-halo:
Oh! Whoops. I made it in Illustrator. Took me a couple weeks cuz I only worked on it a little bit in between other projects.

It's great for illustrator. i would have made it in 3ds first, and then imported it into illustrator and vectorized it. 3ds... my favorite crutch.

I've never used 3DS. I'm used to illustrator though. Transparency tools are your friends!

you have a good eye for 3d. i think once you start designing in 3d, you'll really enjoy it.

Wow, thank you! I guess it's coming sooner than later for me. I should be taking a class in it soon. But technology scares me. With Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash, I feel like I at least have a little control, but when I was working with Poser or Maya, I was perpetually terrified I was going to mess something up--too many variables.

well, i don't really endorse Poser. all of my characters have been made by hand. i don't think any of my characters are all that great, but i think that the discipline you get from learning how to make them will give you a better grasp of geometry, and will make you a better designer. as for Maya, yeah, it's a little obtuse. I prefer 3ds, but i'm sure that's only because that's what i was trained on. ^__^

Have you used poser? It kind of takes alot of geometry into it, I thought . If you do things manually I mean(I hate geometry). But as for Maya, that bloody program is cream of the crop and I will never buy a copy for it at it's current ridiculous price. But then, unlike you, I was never exactly "trained" in that field. I only took two (more like one and a half) classes in Maya and made a ball bounce, a few humanesque models run around and fall down, a quickly-modeled and animated espresso machine with casing and a Nike Golf commercial. So maybe if I was properly shown different methods and tools, I would have more appreciation for the art of 3D modeling and animation? But like I said: scary stuff.

erm, well, i kinda think i got about as much of an education as you did in 3d. but i kept messing with it. and messing with it. and messing with it.

i think my obsessive-compulsive personality works well with certain maths, maybe. ^__^
